Rock the Crossbar

Jonathan Kraft, effectively Chairman of the Revs, apparently had this to say today on WEEI..."Ultimately we'll have a soccer only stadium, and those that have been invested for a while (long term season ticket holders) will benefit and we'll see the atmosphere that we saw at the World Cup." I'm not holding my breath, but this suggests that the Krafts have more than a clue (klue?).

  • I heard him on the way home (rerun of the interview I think)

He did talk about having a soccer-only stadium.

In a different part of the interview he then said that the atmosphere at the MLS final a couple of years ago was akin to USA 94.

So he didnt really say "we'll have a soccer only stadium and then we'll have atmospheres like at the World Cup".

I was impressed by him though.

It was a bit weird though when Michael Holley asked him what the MLS salary cap was and he said he didn't know because they were under it a few years ago and now they just add or subract a couple of players every year that more or less cancel each other out. That was a little embarrassing.

  • Yeah, it's a big embarrassing, but young Jon Jon went to Williams, so it's worth keeping expectations at a reasonable level. It would have been nice to hear something about timeframe on this, but the fact that they're aware of it and thinking along these lines is encouraging. I was at the MLS Cup Final they're talking about and would say it was great to see a crowd of that size at an MLS match, but the atmosphere didn't even come close to sitting with the Irish at Giants Stadium in '94 against Italy. No contest.
