ESPN AND FOOTY
Hi all, yes ESPN have opted to not show Arsenal and Chelsea games live in favour of the World baseball classic. Apparently the games are only US warm ups too...
Setanta are showing them on the Setanta TV station which may be available online at Setanta.com (they have a broadband option , a month subscription is 12 dollars). Else its to Summers, the Pheonix, Fados for the 2.30 games.
The morons at ESPN bumped the US Mexico decider for World Cup qualification recently and it was supposed to be on shown on a long delay but I came across it LIVE on ESPN Classic by chance (the delay also aired on ESPN 2) - Tom, any chance this could happen again.

Even a quick "You wankers!!" will suffice.

Sorry for 3rd post, but is anyone in Boston going to watch either match at a local pub? I may show up for Barca-Chelsea, and definitely for Arsenal-RM, probably at the Phoenix unless I hear people will be watching elsewhere.

This is what I sent to ESPN:
Why the fuck are you idiots not broadcasting the matches (Arsenal/Real Madrid and Chelsea/Barcelona) from the Champions League like you have done each year in the past at this stage of the competition???
Do you have any idea how many people across America are pissed off right now??? Millions.
When are you going to figure out that no true soccer fans in the USA really give a damn about the men's national team...we only care about the EPL and the matches from other top leagues in Europe...
Nice job.
ESPN = Clown shoes (excuse me, fucking clown shoes)
Oh, and for the record, Tommy Smyth and every other announcer you employ (and who broadcast games from your studios, and not live at the matches like they should be - cheap bastards!) are HORRENDOUS.

My response to ESPN was a wee bit more measured and questioned their stickign to programs about basketball filler and half hour sports chat shows - i have no problem with them showing baseball but putting the footy 10 hours later is not fair and I questioned how a network destined to show the World Cup can be expected to do so when it sells off the rights to 2 huge games.
As for US fans not caring about the Mens national team? Errr, I defer you to Tom who would be one such true fan and he knows many others.

Ya I think Tom does know the other 10 fans of the US National team fairly well :-)
Tommy Smith is just woeful. Remember last night he couldn't understand Eto starting from an offside position before the free was taken. He was puzzled. Eto is offside he exclaimed. Has he ever seen Van Nistlerooy play?
Also, neither commentator seemed to realise that Barca's goal did not actually mean much as Chelsea still needed to score two - just like they did before the goal. Nope, it was all talk about Barca wrapping it up.
As for the scheduling - I really have not come to expect much more.
