England
Ahh, one of my favourite pictures that - alas it doesnt look like happening 40 years on after a disastrous weekend. Rooney as much as I hate him is clearly the best English player we have and no Rooney = no Cup much like no Landon = no mockery for America. With concerns over Rooney, Owen, Cole, Campbell (who was crap again today against Sunderland) and now Terry who stupidly played while hurt on Saturday, i have to say this is the worst build up ever to a World Cup we actually have a chance at. Very grim. So do we take Rooney? Terry Butcher says no but for me I would take him as he can win big games, Defoe, Vassell etc , they are just international filler. Just have to hope we get to those big games to get Rooney involved.

Fuck Terry Butcher. Who does he think he is exactly? Just cos he played with a bloody bandage once for England he seems to have an opinion on everything. Is he a doctor? He just seems to be speaking for the sake of publicity. He is at it again this evening calling for FA heads. Ok, he is right, they are muppets but shouldn't he be more worried with Motherwell than everything going on with the FA? They are sitting behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle afterall despite having all-knowing Terry as manager.

I completely agree on Butcher, I listen to him a lot on Radio 5 where his opinion is somehow touted (lets face it, his face is meant for Radio) and he always annoys me. Speaks nonsense and was even in the early running for England manager which thank God died a quick death. He slags off Beckham every chance he gets and to now say not to take Rooney in my opinion is ridiculous.

Too right. Rooney is the touchstone of the English team, either 100% fit or not. He's also a fairly quick healer, so 6 weeks if that's a trusted medical estimate means 6 weeks for him.
Of course he goes to Germany.

Simon have you noticed how often you are agreeing with me lately? Seems like every second post of yours now begins with "I agree with John". Nice to see you are finally learning a little about football :-)

Just be happy that the manager is not named Robson (49.5% winning pct for England), Taylor (47.4%), Venables (47.8%), or Keegan 38.9%)!!!
At least Hoddle could manage a 60.7 clip (Sven is at 59.0%)!!!
The potential complete loss of Rooney (or his marginal fitness level upon return) is horrifying. Though no South American team has ever won a WC on European soil, this could be the year that finally happens. My favorite outside of Brazil and Argentina: Holland.
Never underestimate Marco!!!
P.S. Donovan still stinks.
