What Sven said in Dubai

What Sven said in Dubai

On England future "Everything is possible. But only at the end of the season - if we win the World Cup I will leave and say goodbye."

On Aston Villa "The chairman (Doug Ellis) is an old man today. He's sick."

On Beckham "I know for sure he wants to come back to England.

"If it was a London club, he would come tomorrow.

"This is his third season not winning anything. He is a bit frustrated. He's been there [Real Madrid] two and a half years now - and he doesn't see any improvement at all in the club.

"Some of the big stars are getting older, like Roberto Carlos and (Zinedine) Zidane and they have had five managers in three and a half years."

On Wayne Rooney "It is his temper . . . he's come from a poor family. His father was a boxer . . . he could have been a boxer as well."

On Michael Owen at Newcastle "I talked to Michael Owen and said 'you are happy?' He said 'not really with the club, but economically I never earned that money in my life.' So they paid the salary more than Real Madrid did. He said 'they gave me a house, they gave me a car, it's incredible.' They had to do it because in any other way he wouldn't have gone there."

On Rio Ferdinand "He is lazy sometimes."

On Shaun Wright-Phillips [Eriksson is asked to name the most 'exaggerated' transfer fee] Shaun Wright-Phillips.

On Steven Gerrard's no to a move to Chelsea "There were rumours about a threat to his parents in Liverpool."

On whether Ryan Giggs would rather have played for England "Yes of course."

  • There was also the bit about getting Beckham to go to Villa with Sven managing Villa for 5 million pounds. Sven stated Villa would sell more kits in one week, if Beckham signed, than they sold over the previous ten years.

  • What a rag the News Of The World is. This is so typical of them and the Sun. Build the team and individuals up, raise the publics expectations to such a level where anything but winning is failure, do as much as you can to introduce tension between managers and players, get right behind the team in the days before the world cup by handing out flags etc with the paper then pick a couple of individuals and blame them should the team fall short e.g Seaman, P Neville, Beckham, James, Sven etc etc.

  • Thanks NOTW for destroying team spirit prior to the tournament. Sadly your average Ing-gur-land fan wont see that. He's a proper bell for saying what he did, mind.

I do feel a little sorry for the bugger. He didn't say anything bad about anyone really. SWP was not worth 24 million - I think everyone knows that. Rio can be lazy sometimes - Really? Rooney comes from a tough background - thats hardly a critcism of the lad. We all knew the Michael Owen bit already but that won't go down well in Newcastle.
I would be so angry at the newspaper if this happened with the Irish manager. Its one thing to report on news (like Sven getting it on with Ulrika etc) but its another for a newspaper to go out there and create the news.
It's bound to be more than a little weird in the England camp next time around. This one has legs I think and will run and run.

  • This really annoys me - this newspaper like most tabloids is a joke - total sting operation with the only aim being to destabilise Sven's position and the spirit in the England camp. Granted Sven should be smarted than spilling what he did but this newspaper needs a serious backlash. Trouble is average England fan is too stupid to read the article, will get it all from word of mouth and then wait to slaughter Sven when we eventually go out.
I for one will never pick up their rag of a paper again.

He said stuff I think we all know to be true but i cant believe a newspaper thought that would be a clever idea for a story - they really are vultures.

  • Simon, you seem to forgot that it is not fashionable to be proud of being English in England. The St George Cross is for hooligans and the Union Flag is for the BNP. Look elsewhere for public service. I'd be interested to know though would they have a go at cricket or rugby though.
It sucks for supporters like you but the squad is a bunch of overpaid, pampered prima donnas whose love of country I have to question.

  • Simon to stop reading the news of the world? Where will you get your news from? No more "Keano kills 18 children in playground incident" stories for you then. What about the Sun? You know the only reason they didn't do this is that they didn't think of it.

  • But thats different - Keaneo eats babies. Actually with Keane, his autobiography is a good source of tabloid information - he went out to hurt Haaland. I know this cos he said so!

  • And because you read it every night.

  • Some wanking material for Simon from this weekends Celtic game:
