Agreed. Sky showed a little video montage last night of some of Thatcher's other indiscretions in the past. Really nasty stuff. There was one which was almost a carbon copy of this one - elbow/forearm straight into the face at high speed. There was also a two-footed lunge over the ball on Summerbee I think it was and an incident in pre-season which left some player in Asia with a punctured lung.
I am sick of players from lower clubs getting off lightly with this. If this was Keane, Gerrard or Essien there would be uproar right now.

I could spend all of three minutes of research on the internet to compile a ten-hour highlight video of ManUtd scumbags taking out opponents and fans. Cantona, Giggs, the Neville twats, Keane, Rooney, Schmeichel and the rest were NEVER suspended by their own club - as ManCity have done with Gentle Ben for the Arsenal match. We took pro-active measures for the betterment of the game and the club; Sir Alex has, historically, turned a blind eye to the evil deeds of his pretty show ponies. Your comment is typical of the elitist, class system attitude responsible for not only the ills of the FA/EPL but for the world in general. We'll see you pricks on December 9. Lace 'em up tight.
Ya right. City only suspended him in an effort to be seen to be disciplining the player themselves in the hope that it will make the FA ease off a bit.
Keane's tackle on Haaland is the worst tackle I remember from a United player and even that wasn't life threatening as this one was.
And, by the way, United suspended Cantona for the Palace fan incident before the FA did so you are incorrect. If you are going to capitalise a word you better make sure you are right.
Gac - no way yuo can defend Thatcher and John is right, United did suspend Cantona so City are merely following what one of those class system clubs already did.. Thatcher needs to be banned from the game - its that simple. There are bad tackles in football, 2 foot challenges from Scholes, from Gerrard, from Lauren. It happens but such tackles involve going for the ball in a reckless manner. What Thatcher did wasnt about going for the ball, it was a straight attack on the player. I dont care what club owns the player, the fact is he needs to go. At the very least the FA needs to get rid of him from the season.
I do stand corrected as far as the team's suspension of Cantona and I apologize; of course, that was for an incident involving player contact with an unruly FAN...not an opponent on the pitch. I also apologize for leaving Scholes off of my list of hacks, especially considering the proportional relationship between the escalation of his pathetic fouls and his eroding pace.
The only elbow that rivals this one is the one from Leonardo that felled Tab Ramos.
During the WC by the way, Leonardo was one of the pundits for the BBC and during the half they showed him the De Rossi elbow on McBride and asked him to comment. Taking the piss they were.
Nice to see Dickov acting so concerned in the video too. Probably was looking for Mendes' wallet while he was out. What a team of scumbags Shitty Ciy have these days. Relgation candidates too me thinks. And yes, of course they might lift their game twice a season against United and maybe take a point or 4 from us but, if anything, that would irritate me if I was a City fan as it shows the team are only capable of getting up for it against United and are perfectly happy with being shit for the rest of the year.
Actually, what's really frightening is the fan in the first row's reaction. Watch the video again and see this idiot stand and raise his fist in glee. A bit like hockey.
This is a football (soccer) blog - here we post anything that will interest us in the world of the beautiful game - be it the Premiership, MLS, the World Cup

Yes, it was with a fan but your original comment was "ManUtd scumbags taking out opponents and fans"
So I assume you included the mention of "fans" in there with Cantona in mind.
Eroding pace? Never remember Scholesy having pace. Some players don't need it.
By TheBusbyBoy, at 3:03 PM
He had pace in 98 when he scored against Tunisia.
By GAC, at 6:48 PM
Hardly the essence of his game though was it.
Anyway, forget about deflecting attention onto United for a while and tell us what you think of Foster's challenge? How long should he get?

I think Thatcher should be knighted.
