United Defence - Absolute rubbish

Whilst never pleased with losing matches must state that I was proud of Fulham's play yesterday. The refs have it in for us and have allowed at least three offside goals to stand over the last few matches when we play Van Horse and Co. Take that goal away and substitute in a real defender (sorry Tom) for Carlos "turning shoulders to avoid blow from handbag" Bocanegra and it was level. Self justification you think. No, the fact is that United are rubbish. This is the first time I recall going down two goals (twice) and thinking we could still make a match of it. The reason is that United's back four are crap. I don't see what the hype is about Evra. He kept colluding in to Silvestre despite speaking the same language. He also got hinself injured on a reckless challenge. Serves him right. Wes Brown needs to go now. If you're a United supporter, you can't be pleased with the donkeys in defence. United aren't even worth hating these days. I'm actually upset with their defending myself. It offends me.

  • I was about to respond but its not worth it. Shouldn't you be off reading the online minutes of some local English council meeting or something?

  • John, you can't be pleased with United's defence. They are shocking. Obviously, Fulham would give their eye tooth to be in your shoes but from United's standards your back four are subpar.

Pretty poor to have a go at someone's reading habits which in fact I no longer have time to do. Let's keep the slagging to football related things please.

And the fact is when we go down two goals I normally get a bad feeling but did not feel that way on Saturday. Your squad lacked the bottle to finish us off. Even a Bolton would have found a way to finish it off.

Get angry at your overpaid prima donnas, not me.

  • Interesting this though at the end of the day Chris, United did finish you off and it could have been worse, Ruud had a couple of bad misses. I agree that united's back four is suspect - 6 goals in 2 games doesnt lie but thats only 2 games - prior to that they seemed to be fine. If United can bed Vidic and Evra in a couple of months I am sure it will be business as usual. They need a killer in central midfield though, that will help take the pressure of their defence. Evra will be good, but he must get tighter on those crossing the ball. Could have finished 7-5 to United Saturday and by that rationale could have finished 5-3 to Fulham too but end of the day, 3 points United in what is always an entertaining fixture.

  • You are reacting to two games Chris. If you expect a serious reply from me then try to be more constructive in your postings than "United's back four are crap", "He also got himself injured on a reckless challenge. Serves him right." and "Wes Brown needs to go now". Last time I checked you supported Fulham right? You don’t get to call for players from other clubs to “go”. Maybe I will start a McClaren out campaign?

Rather than jump on the "United have let in 6 in 2 games so their defence must be shit" bandwagon, I prefer to look at their performance over the course of the season. I know thats not the cool approach any more. VDS, Rio and Wes Brown have been excellent for the most part. Our problems in midfield meant we broke up that defence to push Rio into midfield. You are probably the same one who would have said Rio was a shit defender three weeks ago but suddenly it looks like United need him back there after all eh? Just like our title challenge fell to bits in 2002 when he got suspended? Funny that.

If you think the only difference between the two sides on Saturday was a bad offside decision and Bocanegra then dream on.

Also, unlike you, I will wait more than three games to make up my mind on Evra and Vidic. Foreign players who move to England in mid-season deserve at least that. Again though, I know its cooler to declare somebody shit after a couple of games but I'm not a very cool person.

  • Sorry for the reading jab though Chris. Was working all weekend and was in the middle of an all nigher when I read this.

  • Interesting comment by Fergie today. I had suspected this was close enough to being true but its difficult to find out. I have been looking for a website that lets you plug in a date and shows you the Premiership table as it stood on that date but with no luck:

"Our points total is the best it has been at this stage of the season for about 10 years. So we can only applaud the consistency Chelsea have achieved. I have no doubt we can also achieve that consistency."

  • Yes, obviously this posting was not the most reasoned analysis. Thank you for your constructive postings

  • Any time.

  • Fergies sepnt a lot of cash of his defense. They're okay, I think integrating the new faces might be the issue.
