Jovan kirovsky

So I am listening to the Guardian podcast on the plane back from Canada on Monday and some listener posted in correcting the panel on who the first American to score in the Champions League was - the panel had said it was Beasley. In fact the listener pointed out that it was Jovan Kirovsky who played for blah blah team in 199 something..... The only person I have ever known to bang on about Jovan Kirovsky is Tom Esch - that listener turned out to be "Tom from Washington". Was that you Esch???

  • That was most certainly not me, but it's good to know that Jovan is still around. He would've scored with whatever German team he was on. First American to score in Wembley? Anyone? Bueller?

  • Harkes' record in England before banging Wynalda's wife prior to WC 98 - (1990-96): Played his final season in England before returning to MLS with West Ham United of the English Premier League ... Played two full seasons with Derby County of the English First Division prior to his move to West Ham ... Made 82 appearances and scored seven goals with playing with Sheffield Wednesday from 1990 -93 ... With Wednesday, he became the first American to score a goal in the prestigious League Cup Final at Wembley ... Became the first American to play in an F.A. Cup Final May 15, 1993 ... Also became the first American to play in the UEFA Cup in 1992 ... In his first year with Wednesday, he helped the club capture the 1991 English League Cup championship and promotion to the English Premier Division ... His 35-yard one- timer past former English national team captain Peter Shilton earned England's Goal of the Year in 1990 ... Started his American career with the USISL's Albany Capitals.

  • I know two things:

    1) Kirovsky was with Dortmund when they won the CL in 97.

    2) Tom from Washington must be Tom Esch.

  • 1. I believe, but could be wrong, that the first Yank to score in Wembley was Mike Masters, playing at the time for the U.S. U-20's or some such thing. Trick question, in a way, as he wasn't a pro. And I could still be wrong.

    2. No way, no how that was me. Turns out I actually have to work in this new job.
