The Run-In

Okay Johnno, i figured I would beat you to the punch and provide the run-in which as I see it has 7 key weeks. Both sides pay 5 of the top 10 in their last few games including each other right near the end assuming one of United and Chelsea makes the semis of the FA Cup. If United win the first 2 fixtures at home, thats it - all over. If they slip Chelsea might claw it back. Sadly enough I can see Chelsea winning every single one of these games. If that happens United need to win 7 of the 8 (assuming Chelsea beat them). Thats still tough but if they win the first 2 I think Chelsea will give up. Lets hope anyway. May 5th sees 2 potentially massive derbies with Arsenal hosting Chelsea and City hosting United, if there is still anything to play for that will be a volatile weekend.

  • A couple of observations:

    1) Delighted City lost to Wigan at the weekend. They will be fighting for their lives against Chelsea on the 14th which can't hurt. City tend to bounce back after a few bad losses when everybody is critcising them. Then, when you expect a result from them, they disappoint.

    2) Hopefully West Ham pick up wins against Blackburn and Boro so they still have something to play for against Chelsea on April 9th. Hopefully they will be relegated by May 13th though.

    3) Spurs are suddenly winning - and away from home as well. Could be a tricker game for Chelsea on Apr 7th than it looked like being a couple of weeks ago.

    4) Chelsea have two London derbies in the space of 3 days on the 7th and 9th.

    5) Newcastle away could be tricky for Chelsea on Apr 21st.

    6) May 5th Come on Arsenal. I love you Herr Lehmann. Arsenal to deny Ashley Cole a league medal? Arsenal will be up for this after the Carling Cup final.

    7) I'll be cheering for Chelsea against Porto. Having won the league for the last two years the CL must be what they really want. Having them still be involved in that can't hurt United.

  • Yes Chelsea's run in is tough but the way they are playing, they may win every game - probably not but its worth knowing the maximum you will need to do to win.

You have 3 of the last 4 away including Chelsea which is why I think you want it wrapped up by then. Three of the first 4 at home and I think Blackburn is the potential problem there.

Portsmouth away should be a win as they are horrible at the moment. The last 4 are a real nightmare for you.

Chelsea will have to be pretty special to win every game... Spuds hate them, we hate them, you hate them - other than that I think the rest they will win, West Ham away with 2 days rest may be a problem but its West Ham who are going going gone anyway.

  • I can't believe how many people in the game seem to be saying that its as good as over. Way too many sticky games left. We could end up winning it by 13 or still losing it.
With Cech back in goals and Drogba being himself up front its definitely posible seeing them win all 10. They might not even have to though.
Clever of Jose on Saturday saying Chelsea only needed United to drop 4 points. Basically implying it was a given they would beat us. So where the league table says 9 points he wants the Chelsea and, more importantly, the United players to see 4 points. Much better effort at mind games than his earlier "United are lucky" effort.
Anyway, we got to this point by taking one game at a time since September so its all about Lille for now.
I wonder if Fergie is working on Larsson this week? All the sounds coming out of Old Trafford are that it is not even an option but you know he is not going to let him go that easily. If only we were Chelsea we could just kidnap the player and hold his family at gunpoint.
